There are several kinds of fur types, the most common are mink, fox, chinchilla, sable and catlynx.
The most qualitative fur skins are sold in the certified fur auction houses like NAFA in Canada, SAGA in Finland, ALC BLACKGLAMA in USA (Blackglama now belongs to NAFA), KOPENHAGEN FUR in Europe and SOJUZPUSHNINA in St. Petersburg.

NAFA & BLACKGLAMA
NAFA Officially Acquires BLACKGLAMA Label.
The mission of North American Fur Auctions is to be the premium seller and cost effective consignor service provider of the highest quality and broadest selection of fur pelts sold around the world.
North American Fur Auctions is the second largest fur auction house in the world and the largest in America. The company traces back to 1670 and has roots to the Hudson Bay Company.
NAFA sells over ten million farmed minks per year and has the largest and most inclusive collection of wild fur as well as an extensive catalogue of farmed fox.

Kopenhagen Fur
The Auction is owned and managed by Danish Fur Breeders’ Association (DFBA) a cooperative founded in 1930.
The DFBA represents the Danish fur breeders in Europe for political lobbying.
The Danish Fur Breeder’s Association also manages another agency that is responsible for development in fur breeding. It is also behind health assurance, disease control and purchase of feed ingredients.
Kopenhagen Fur is the sales organisation of the cooperative and sells pelts from members and suppliers at the auctions. DFBA owns Kopenhagen Fur and makes up the board of directors thereby having voting power over the business. All of the members are granted equal rights regardless of the size of their business with the “one man one vote” policy.
Most people agree that mink is the most popular fur. The production amounts change from year to year according to factors including weather, market, and fashion trends. Annually, an average of 50 million mink pelts are harvested around the world.
Denmark is the leader in mink sales with its production of 17 million pelts per year. Mink fur is also harvested in the USA, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and China.
SAGA FURS
Saga Furs was founded in 1938 and is headquartered in Vantaa, Finland. The auction house offers Finn raccoon, mink, and fox furs, as well as karakul pelts.
Saga Furs Oyj is the full service auction house with the broadest selection of superior furs from strictly regulated European sources. Our efforts focus on supporting sustainable sources of European fur sold at 4-5 international auctions each year, and then marketing Saga® Mink, Fox and Finnraccoon on a global scale.

SOJUZPUSHNINA
The company has had bouts as a unitary state enterprise (USE) and an open joint stock association, until 2003 when it was completely privatised. It is currently an all-union self-supporting foreign trade association. The auctions are held in the St. Petersburg’ 3 – 4 times per year and offer about 600 thousand of sable skins. The auction sells a wide variety of wild and farmed furs from Russia including mink, foxes, lynx, squirrel and kolinsky. Russia is the only place where sable thrives and the auction prides itself on its fine fur. Sable from Sojuzpushnina is branded with the label Sobol.
